Wednesday, November 25, 2009 - Ryan

Today's run was quite challenging. Tempo runs are by far and away the worst training run in my opinion, the runs I dread the most; that's probably why the are the most beneficial for building speed / endurance. Ideally, Tempo should be done on a flat surface, that's why most people prefer a treadmill (flat surface and no wind). I can't stand running on a treadmill, so I usually do my Tempo across the reservoir on Spillway Road, perfectly flat, but wind can sometimes be an issue (see Marathon Makeover Half Marathon last month). I shook the cobwebs off the Lunaracers for this run, and they felt really good. My goal on today's workout was to keep my heartrate above 90% of my max, which I was able to do. I felt good for most of the run, but I could definitely feel I was working hard the entire 5 miles.

Leanna and I are doing our long run tomorrow, so I've got 14 miles with her and then 4 more on my own.

I hope everyone who reads this has a great Thanksgiving holiday with their friends and family.
