Friday, November 6, 2009 - Ryan

Decided to sleep in yesterday morning, so I got in an 8 miles at lunch.

Garmin Connect - Activity Details for Run #12

I did an easier run on Wednesday, so I decided to pick up the pace a little on this one. The run went great until I got back to the office and discovered someone had stolen my t-shirt. Luckily, I had an extra shirt in my gym bag.

Today is a rest day. I usually try to run 5 days a week and take Friday and Sunday off. This schedule seems to work well for me, but some people prefer to run 4 days. It took me a while to realize that my body needed rest days, but once I started training for 2009 Chicago, I quickly found out that constant days of running does a number on your legs. Rest and recovery are critical to successful, injury-free training. I had always thought I could push through the pain signals my body was sending me, and I probably could've, but I didn't have to. Training programs, when followed correctly, are quite accurate, and they call for multiple rest days.

I'm thinking an easy 12 miles or so tomorrow and then Leanna and I start training for the Mardi Gras Marathon on February 28th together.
